August 11, 2010: Not sure what exactly you might need to pack for life in the residence halls? We’ve got a list of things we recommend. Some are essentials; others are things you might want to add if you’ve got room.

The following items may make your stay in the residence halls feel more comfortable and more like home:

• Alarm clock/clock radio.

• Computer & surge protector.

• Cell Phone. (Public access phones are available in the halls; you’ll need a calling card for long distance. Private phone lines are available for $50 per semester. Contact the Office of Student Life at 601-968-5969 for more info.)

• Microwave (900 amp. maximum).

• Refrigerator (5 cu. ft. maximum).

• Umbrella.

• Bedside lamp (no halogens).

• Clothes appropriate for Mississippi:

o Average Fall temps: 60-90 degrees (prepare for 95!).

o Average Spring temps: 35-85 degrees.

• Laundry basket and detergent.

• Pillows & bed linens (standard twin sheets for Helen White Hall; extra-long twin sheets for all other halls).

• Small fan.

• Sweater/storage boxes.

• Bath towels and wash clothes.

• Cable-ready television.

• Iron and ironing board.

• Rug/carpet for the floor.

• Shower caddy.

• Flip flops (shower shoes).

• Toiletries, Tylenol, bandages, etc.

• Health insurance information. (You’ll be asked for this upon checking in!)

• Clothes hangers.

• Stereo/ipod dock

• Backpack.

• School supplies (notebooks, pens, etc.).
