October 22, 2010: The Belhaven Composers Forum invites you to Student Composers Concert VIII on Tuesday, November 9. This interactive showcase will explore new ways to experience music-making through presenting original works of students composers and providing an opportunity for discussion and listener feedback.

“What really excites me about this is that we’re creating new music in a context where people know one another and people can share the experience together as a community,” says Dr. Andy Sauerwein, Assistant Professor of Music Composition. “The emphasis we have is not so much entertaining people, but engaging people. It’s almost more of a community event than a concert.”

The student works cover a variety of styles and performance setups, ranging from solo piano to rock band. “Students are exploring new ideas,” says Sauerwein. “It music making on the edge.”

The concert begins at 7:30 pm in the Recital Room of the Center for the Arts. Complimentary admission. Doors open at 7 pm.
