October 5, 2011 (Jackson) - Belhaven is one of only a 100 universities in the country that received the distinction of America's 100 Best College Buys. This is the tenth consecutive year Belhaven was recognized for its affordability and financial aid available to Belhaven students.
Kevin Russell, Vice President for University Advancement, said, “We take great pride in being named to this prestigious list of colleges and universities that seek to provide a superior quality education at costs that are obtainable for our prospective students.“
Belhaven's affordable tuition is due to several other factors that help students receive a quality education at a low cost. 90% of Belhaven students receive some form of financial aid. Academic, art and sport scholarships are just three of the many student scholarships awarded. The value of a degree from Belhaven University is a long-term investment into a student's future. Belhaven also lowers the cost of books and other college expenses.
Russell adds, “Our Admission and Financial Aid offices help make a Belhaven degree possible for every student that is accepted to enroll at Belhaven. We constantly strive to reach beyond the expectations of our students as we work with them to find God's plan for their lives. We know that when a student comes to Belhaven, they will have an experience that will change their lives...that's what we do!”
The Institutional Research and Evaluation, Inc. is an independent research and consultant organization specializing in the recruiting and retention of students for institutions of higher learning, and conducted the 21st Annual National College Survey to determine which colleges made the cut. Institutions of higher learning are compared and then identified as the 100 best colleges.
The criteria only allows accredited universities who had entering freshmen with a high school GPA, SAT, or ACT score equal to or above the national average for entering college freshmen. Belhaven also met the criteria of having an out-of-state cost of attendance below the national average cost of attendance.
