April 11, 2011: Andrew Craig, rising junior in the Belhaven University Music Department, has been cast as the lead role, Joseph, in Jackson, Mississippi's New Stage Theatre's professional production of Joseph and His Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. From the Chicago area, Andrew is a multi-talented conductor, pianist, brass instrumentalist, and vocalist. As a singer, he most recently appeared as Fabrizio in Belhaven's production of The Light in the Piazza. He has studied voice at Belhaven University with Dr. Christopher Shelt, Coordinator of Vocal Arts and with Mrs. Gena Everett, Adjunct Instructor of Voice. He will also conduct alongside Dr. Shelt on the Iberian Romance Choral and Vocal Arts Concert, featuring Spanish and Portuguese selections, on April 16th at 7:30pm in the Concert Hall of the Center for the Arts at Belhaven.
In Joseph and His Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, the story of Joseph and his coat of many colors is retold straight from the Old Testament account. The music is an engaging cornucopia of musical styles, from country-western and calypso to bubble-gum pop and rock 'n' roll.
