February 3, 2001: During the month of February, Belhaven University will be celebrating ten days in history that changed our nation, as well as honoring ten inspiring people (Jesse Owens, Martin Luther King, Jr., Rosa Parks, Jackie Robinson, Pearl Bailey, Clara McBride Hale, Alex Haley, Harriet Tubman, Sojourner Truth and Mark Dean) with information posted in the student center. Additionally the outdoor music in Gillespie Commons will take a break from classical music and accompany Black History Month with jazz.
Throughout the month there will be special events held in celebration of these days. These include jazz music, special speakers in Chapel, Soul Food Lunch, and dance performances and performances by Belhaven V.O.I.C.E.S. (Gospel Choir).
