March 28, 2011: The Social Work Student Organization, His Hands and Feet, is participating in a metro area service day with seventeen congregations on April 9th from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. They will serve at We Will Go inner city ministry that provides clothing, food, shelter, and spiritual guidance to those who are in need in Jackson. Belhaven students will be helping with preparing and serving lunch to the homeless as well as servicing the clothes closet. Other tasks include painting and landscaping opportunities.

Angela Gaddis, Associate Professor and Chair of the Social Services Department, who is heading the student participation noted, "I am excited about this opportunity for our students to ‘serve, and not be served’ as well as the application of concepts learned in the classroom to real life situations. It is important to teach concepts and ideas regarding marginalized populations but it is critical to expose students to individuals first hand so they can see them as human beings and not simply a statistic."

This will be a great chance for students to come out and help around the community! For more information contact Angela Gaddis at agaddis@belhaven.edu.
