November 30, 2011 (Orlando) - The Belhaven Orlando Commencement will celebrate and honor its graduating students in a December 8 ceremony at the First Baptist Church of Orlando.

Alexis Fields, Director of Admission and Student Services at Belhaven Orlando, said, “Congratulations to each one of our exceptional Belhaven University graduates for their achievements that have brought them to commencement. These students have accomplished an amazing milestone for their own lives, families, and futures. The education they received at Belhaven will benefit them for the rest of their lives."

Terrance Ascott, founder and CEO of SAT-7 International Office, is the speaker and honored guest at Belhaven Orlando commencement. SAT-7 is the first Arabic-Christian satellite television channel that was started in 1995 with the help of other Middle Eastern Christian leaders and partner organizations working in the region.

Ascott lived in the Middle East and served as the leader for several indigenous media ministries for more than 30 years. In 1973, he moved to Beirut, Lebanon and helped launch an Arabic-Christian publishing ministry. After the start of the Lebanese Civil War, he and his family evacuated to Egypt where he helped begin the Arabic youth magazine, Magalla. This was the first Christian magazine to be successfully distributed on Egyptian newsstands.

Ascott holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with honors from Middlesex University, England. He and his wife Jacqueline live in Nicosia, Cyprus and have three adult children and one grandchild.

Belhaven stands among the select Christian colleges and universities that offer a unique general core curriculum encouraging the development of a personal worldview. The university believes a Christian worldview is a key to preparing men and women academically and spiritually to serve Christ Jesus in their careers, in human relationships, and in the world of ideas.

Founded in 1883, Belhaven University now serves over 3,000 students from campuses in Jackson, Memphis, Orlando, Houston, Chattanooga, Atlanta and online, offering traditional undergraduate degrees, graduate and adult degree programs, and online degree programs.
