March 11, 2011: On March 28, 2011, Richard Tillinghast, the author of eight books of poetry and three books of non-fiction, will be reading poetry in Barber Auditorium at 7:00 pm. This event is sure to be an evening for poetry lovers and beginners who want to learn more about the art of poetry.
"The reading by Tillinghast offers an opportunity to see and hear a writer who has shaped contemporary poetry over the past 40 years through his own accomplished poetry and through his perceptive review in the The New York Times Book Review of poetry written by others," said Randall Smith, Chair of the Creative Writing Department at Belhaven.
Tillinghast has reviewed poetry for The New York Times Book Review, and has reviewed and written literary essays for the Wall Street Journal, the Washington Post, and The New Criterion. His poems have appeared in the Atlantic Monthly, Paris Review, and The New Yorker, Poetry, The New Republic, Poetry London, Poetry Ireland Review, as well as online.
