March 22, 2012 (Jackson) Musicians from Belhaven Universitys Music Department and the Jackson community are combining musical talent to present a collaborative concert on March 31. This free concert in Belhavens Concert Hall starts at 7:30 P.M. and will include the Belhaven University and Jackson Community Symphonic Band, Jazz Ensemble and Percussion Ensemble.
Dr. Paxton Girtmon, Associate Professor of Music and Music Education Chair, said, This will be an excellent opportunity to enjoy music from nearly all genres; classical, jazz, contemporary, and percussion. The audience will experience the excitement of music and sound through a full range of instrumental tones, color, and energy. Bring the whole family out for a fun-filled night of music making.
Dr. Paxton Girtmon and Mr. Paul Heindl will conduct the ensembles. Other local musicians who want to continue to play their instruments, but dont have a creative outlet to do so were encouraged to join Belhaven students and faculty for this concert.
This ensemble concert will feature musical compositions new and old. One of the new compositions, Conversations, comes from Belhaven senior music composition major, Cory Gray.
A tenor saxophone solo by Belhaven music performance major, Michael Atkins, will also be featured as well as other moving pieces from composers like Travinsky.
Free concerts are hard to come by these days, but Belhaven continually has a number of exciting performances like this one for free. Check out our Arts Ablaze for more.
