June 20, 2012 (Jackson) - The Belhaven Women’s Athletic Program took home the Musco Lighting Team Sportsmanship award this year. After a successful year, athletes in women’s basketball, cross-country, soccer, softball, tennis and volleyball were honored for their conduct during competition.

The Southern States Athletic Conference sportsmanship award is based on five core characteristics of the NAIA’s Champions of Character Program, which are respect, responsibility, integrity, servant leadership and sportsmanship. The Belhaven Blazers exemplified the traits both on and off the field during the season en route to this honor. Each institution earns points throughout the year and standings are kept towards this annual institutional award.

Belhaven University is a member of the NAIA, Southern States Athletic Conference and Mid-South Conference and sponsors 13 intercollegiate sports. Belhaven is an institution that focuses on preparing students academically and spiritually to serve Christ Jesus.
