September 28, 2012 (Jackson) - A Master of Education in Reading Literacy is now available through Belhaven’s online degree program. This program prepares students for today educational system where there has been a heavy emphasis on evaluating academic achievement.

Reading is a cornerstone to learning and a crucial point in a child education. This graduate degree program will help its students become the catalyst that transforms the life of a student through reading.

The Master of Education in Reading Literacy program offers advanced skills and specialized training for teachers who want to impact schools in the area of reading. Because this master’s degree is online, it helps students pursue a college degree that fits around their home and work demands.

This degree path is intended for those who are already teaching and have a teacher’s license. Teachers who enroll in to the program will learn how to diagnose and access student reading problems, then improve their own and other teachers’ ability to meet those needs.

The online curriculum prepares participants with the most knowledgeable and current practices in reading. Internships and practicum field experiences will provide an opportunity to apply classroom principles and techniques.

A master’s degree in reading literacy can put teachers into supervisory and leadership roles in education. Many school districts use literacy coaches or reading specialists to improve instruction.
