February 13, 2013 (Jackson) - The Belhaven Dance Ministry Ensemble will perform at the Bitsy-Irby Visual Arts and Dance Center theater on February 14 -16. The Dance Ministry Ensemble is a select group of students devoted to serving the community that use the art of dance to encourage and inspire.
Concert dates and times:
Thursday, February 14 at 11 a.m.
Friday, February 15 at 7:30 p.m.
Saturday, February 16 at 7:30 p.m.
Each fall, Belhaven University dance students audition to be accepted into the ensemble. The performance will feature choreography by Belhaven faculty and guest artists. Sol Nazario and Mia Whitehead, Belhaven Dance faculty members, created the choreography, as well as plan performances in the community.
The Dance Ministry Ensemble performs in children’s homes, nursing homes, and other venues throughout Jackson to bless and encourage others. “The ensemble explores how a collaborative choreographic process can serve, engage, and encourage community members,” said Krista Bower, a Specialty Instructor of Dance at Belhaven. Bower has worked with eight members of the Dance Ministry Ensemble for the past six months, to share the process of building a dance fellowship with teenagers who reside at the Methodist Children’s Home in Clinton, Miss.
General admission will be $10 and $5 for senior and student tickets. There will be complimentary admission for children (12 and under) as well as Belhaven faculty, staff and students. The doors open at 7:00 p.m. on February 15 and 16, and 10:30 a.m. on February 14.
