October 1, 2013 (Jackson) - Poet Julie Kane will be visiting our campus on Monday, October 7 and will read some of her works as well as share her insight with students from Belhaven’s Creative Writing Department.
Kane is the current Louisiana Poet Laureate, excelling in her field with many awards. Her six books include three collections of poetry, one volume of non-fiction, and two edited anthologies. She is presently at work on her fourth collection of poems, a volume of light verse to be titled No-Win Situations. Her 2003 poetry collection was Maxine Kumin’s selection for the National Poetry Series of four finalists for the 2005 Poets’ Prize. Her new collection, Jazz Funeral, is judge David Mason’s selection for the 2009 Donald Justice Poetry Prize.
This event, held in the Student Center Theatre, is open to the public and admission is complimentary. Doors open at 5 p.m. and the reading will begin at 5:30 p.m.
