March 19, 2013 (Jackson) - Members of the Jackson community will combine their musical talents with musicians from Belhaven’s Music Department for a collaborative concert on March 23,2013. This free concert in Belhaven’s Concert Hall starts at 7:30 p.m. and will include the Jackson Community Symphonic Band and Belhaven’s Jazz and Percussion Ensemble.

Dr. Paxton Girtmon, Associate Professor of Music and Music Education Chair at Belhaven University and Mr. Owen Rockwell, Instructor of Music and Assistant Band Director at Jackson State University, will conduct the ensembles.

Dr. Girtmon said, “This will be an excellent opportunity to enjoy music from nearly all genres; classical, jazz, contemporary, and percussion. The audience will experience the excitement of music and sound through a full range of instrumental tones, color, and energy.“
