March 28, 2013, (Jackson) - Belhaven Theatre department will present Shipwrecked! The Amazing Adventures of Louis de Rougemont on April 2-6 in Belhavens Theatre 151. This fast-paced and highly theatrical presentation of the life of Louis de Rougemont celebrates the child-like wonder of magical storytelling.
The play is directed Anna Rebmann, a senior theatre major, and is based on the true story of Louis de Rougemont. He is a self-proclaimed explorer who became famous for the story of his adventures in the islands of the South Pacific published in the World Wide Magazine at the turn of the century. After his story is called into question, the magazine quipped, Truth is stranger than fiction, but De Rougemont is stranger than both.
Rebmann said, Remember when you where a child, when the world seemed huge and everything seemed new. As a grown up, the world can feel much smaller, but this story is a return to that sense of exploration and mystery in creation.
Shipwrecked! will feature four students from the Belhaven Theatre Department who will play 50 different characters, from Queen Victoria to native tribesmen. Craig Fairbanks, Zak Leatche, Morgan Robertson and Melissa Ray make up the cast. Rebmann adds, The fun thing about this show is that I have actors who are very creative and willing to try different things with each of the 50 characters.
