southern Literary Festival

April 24, 2014 (Jackson) - Two students from the Belhaven Creative Writing Department won first-place in this year’s Southern Literary Festival at the University of Mississippi on March 27-31. Jill Cromwell took first place in the plays category for her work entitled “Photograph” and Lindsay Gill won first place in the short story category for her work entitled “Twenty-Five.”

The conference is the oldest undergraduate literary festival in the country and Belhaven University was a founding member in 1937. The Southern Literary Festival is an undergraduate writing conference that entails writing workshops in fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction, playwriting and more. The festival is also a writing competition and a venue in which the participating students, faculty, and general public attend readings by well-known writers.
