February 3, 2015 (Jackson) - The Preston Chamber Music Series is proud to present An Evening of Diamonds II: Messiaen Quartet on February 10, 7:30 p.m. at the Center for the Arts Concert Hall.

Olivier Messiaen, one of the major composers of the 20th century, composed a quartet while a prisoner of war during WWII, using only the available instruments in the camp. Its title “Quartet for the End of Time” alludes to the Apocalypse and to the new way in which Messiaen used time in his music.

Dr. Stephen Sachs, piano, is joined by principal players from the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra, Vince Massimino, violin, Ken Graves, clarinet and Jesse Christeson, cello, for a rare performance of this fascinating work. Other smaller works of Messiaen will complete the program. Admission is free and the doors open at 7 p.m.
