January 6, 2016 (Jackson, Miss.) - The Graphic Design Department will host a week-long exhibit featuring the work of student designers. The exhibit will begin with an opening reception on January 16, 2-4 p.m. in the Bitsy Irby Visual Art and Dance Center Art Gallery and end on January 23.
It is rare to see a comprehensive graphic design exhibition in this area, and this show gives the general public a sense of what graphic design is about and where it is going, said Gigi Turner, Assistant Professor and Chair of the Graphic Design Department.
This is the fourth annual show from the Graphic Design Department and will feature a collection of the best work of the year. This show is a juried exhibition, in which judges from leading design studios and various advertising agencies picked the work to be seen in the show. This show will include various print, packaging, web/multi-media and brand design exploration.
The work is reviewed and chosen based on its relevancy to needs in the profession, said Turner. This becomes positive in several ways. The judging process allows the students to see where their work stands against current work, and secondly, the process exposes the department work to area professionals for feedback. The show is something that the students work toward each semester and is an excellent opportunity for exposure. Some students have even received job opportunities due to their work here.
