March 28, 2016 (Jackson, Miss.) - The Student Invitational Art Exhibition is the centerpiece of the year for the Visual Art Department and will showcase a variety of artwork from freshmen to seniors. This annual exhibit will run from April 2 to May 8 from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. It will highlight a wide range of styles and media including drawing, painting, photography, sculpture and mixed media. Admission is free to the art exhibition.
This unique exhibit is a direct result from the department's practicum period, a part of the year when visual arts majors engage in concentrated, individualized pursuit of the art-making process. The goal of practicum is to help each student focus on and identify their own unique artistic abilities and work toward a career in the arts. Students work hard to have their work selected to be on display for the art premiere.
The opening reception will be at the Bitsy Irby Visual Arts and Dance Center Gallery on Saturday, April 2, 2-4 p.m.
