The White Snake posterOctober 31, 2016 (Jackson, Miss.) - A classic Chinese fable comes to life with Mary Zimmerman's The White Snake. This new production by Belhaven's Theatre Department will premiere in the Blackbox Theatre on November 11, 2016.

“This beautiful adaptation offers a visual feast for the audience, with imaginative storytelling using puppets, projections and music,” said Dr. Elissa Sartwell, associate professor of theatre and director.“We're thrilled to share this non-western production with the campus and the Greater-Jackson community.”

Zimmerman reimagines the ancient legend in which a snake spirit transforms herself into a beautiful woman in order to experience the human world. In her adventure through the human world, White Snake meets her companion, Green Snake and manages to fall in love with the virtuous Xu Xian. Dr. Sartwell adds, “At its core, the play is a love story reminding us that we can be seen for who we truly are and still be loved.”
