Little Shop of HorrorsMarch 22, 2016 (Jackson, Miss.) - Musical hilarity will ensue with the debut of Little Shop of Horrors, the sci-fi smash hit about a man-eating plant. “We've got a phenomenal cast, crew and production staff, and we are excited for the community to come out and see this wonderfully entertaining musical," said Dr. David Sollish, Associate Professor of Musical Theatre and Chair. Little Shop of Horrors will debut at Belhaven's Blackbox Theatre on April 15-23.

The story centers around a meek floral assistant, Seymour Krelborn, who stumbles across a new breed of plant he names Audrey II after his coworker and crush. The Audrey II, a raucous, R&B-singing carnivore, promises unending fame and fortune to the down-and-out Seymour as long as he keeps feeding it blood. Over time, Seymour discovers Audrey II's devious intent-world domination!

Little Shop of Horrors is what we call a campy show with a lot of fun and odd situations, off-the-wall jokes and memorable characters,” adds Dr. Sollish. “The original off-Broadway production was based on the cult-classic film directed by Roger Corman from the 60's and the writers have tried to keep a lot of the humor from that movie intact. I hope to stick to the campiness of the original and to pay homage to the movie that inspired it all.”

General admission is $10 and $5 for seniors and students. Admission is free for Belhaven students, faculty, staff and their immediate families. Doors open 30 minutes prior to each performance.
