Derrick JordanMay 6, 2016 (Jackson, Miss.) - Alum and 16-year veteran of the Jackson Police Department (JPD) was honored for his service by the Mississippi Attorney General's Office. Sgt. Derrick Jordan '16 received the Distinguished Service Award from the Attorney General's Office of Crime Victims' Rights for his work and collaborative investigations with the AG's office.

“Derrick is an honorable man, demonstrating the highest integrity,” said, Dr. Ervin Martin, director of Belhaven's master of public administration (M.P.A.) program. “He is diligent in meeting all responsibilities in a timely manner, and he is thorough and meticulous in all assignments. Derrick graduates with the highest score ever awarded in the graduate capstone research case study. He has clearly demonstrated outstanding potential for leadership management positions.”

Jordan earned his master of public administration from Belhaven's Jackson Adult and Graduate Studies campus. He supervises JPD's robbery and homicide division and has served as a patrol officer, robbery and homicide detective and FBI task force member. He is currently a member of the Jackson and Hinds SWAT team and was promoted to sergeant in December 2013.
