November 10, 2016 (Jackson, Miss.) - Belhaven will host the annual Mississippi Guitar Festival on November 11-12 at the Center for the Arts. Each year, competitions, lectures, master classes and concerts are offered for the enrichment of enthusiasts, professionals and students of the classical guitar.
This festival is the state's only collegiate conference on the art of classical guitar and every year an internationally acclaimed guest artist is invited to attend. This year Ivan Rijos from Puerto Rico will perform. Some students will get to meet and take guitar lessons with Rijos. Other artists from past festivals have included Ricardo Cobo, Florian Larousse, William Kanengiser, Denis Azabagic, Adam Holzman and Jason Vieaux.
Two free concerts are open to the public. On Friday night, guest faculty from participating universities will share the stage and perform a variety of music at 7:30p.m. Then, on Saturday at 7:30 p.m., Ivan Rijos will showcase his mastery of the classical guitar.
