B 52 Film ChallengeSeptember 26, 2018 (Jackson, Miss.) - Belhaven's Film Production Department is inviting every and any film maker across the country to take part in the B52 Film Challenge.

Organizers are asking high school, adult, and college filmmakers to write, shoot, edit, and upload a short film in just 52 hours. An award will be given to the best film in each of the three categories; high School Student, College Student, and Adult/Non-Student.

“B52 is not a competition, but a challenge,” said Rick Negron, chair and assistant professor of film production. “We want to challenge people to create something new, then we want to celebrate with them by providing the opportunity to see their work on a big screen."

According to Negron, filmmaking teams should register for the event by Friday, October 12 by simply emailing the participants name and category to film@belhaven.edu. The theme and mandatory items to be included in the film will be emailed to participants on Friday, October 12 at 5 p.m.

Submissions must be uploaded by 9 p.m. on Sunday, October 14. The films must be seven minutes or less, and films uploaded after that time will be ineligible. The submissions will be selected and adjudicated, and then the top films will be screened November 8 at the Malco Grandview in Madison, Miss.

Negron adds, “In Belhaven's Film Production Department, we have a passion for inspiring and equipping people to tell their stories through film and video. After being part of the B52 Film Challenge, I know people will be inspired to continue making films. In addition to that, it's fun! Getting together with your friends and working to beat the clock will create memories that will endure alongside the finished product.”
