Catherine Pierce February 15, 2018 (Jackson, Miss.) - TheBelhaven Creative Writing Departmentwill host poet Catherine Pierce for a reading of her published works, February 26 at 5:00 p.m. in the Student Center Theatre. This event, free and open to the public, is part of the department's visiting writer series. Pierce will be answering questions as well as speaking with students on a variety of topics about writing and poetry.

Pierce is the author of three books of poetry: The Tornado Is the World (Saturnalia 2016), The Girls of Peculiar (Saturnalia 2012), and Famous Last Words (Saturnalia 2008). Both The Tornado Is the World and The Girls of Peculiar won the Mississippi Institute of Arts and Letters Poetry Prize. Pierce's poems have appeared in The Best American Poetry (2011 and 2015), Best New Poets, Slate, Boston Review, Ploughshares, The Cincinnati Review, The Southern Review, Crab Orchard Review, Indiana Review, Gulf Coast, Mid-American Review, Pleiades, Gettysburg Review, Crazyhorse, and elsewhere. Originally from Delaware, Pierce earned her B.A. from Susquehanna University, her M.F.A. from the Ohio State University, and her Ph.D. from the University of Missouri. She now lives in Starkville, Miss., where she is an associate professor and co-director of the creative writing program at Mississippi State University. Complimentary admission. Open to the public.
