COD 2018October 30, 2018 (Jackson, Miss.) - For the eighth consecutive year, Belhaven University was named a 2018-19 Christian College of Distinction. The Colleges of Distinction (COD) organization selected the institutions based on four criteria - student engagement, great teaching, vibrant communities, and successful outcomes.

Colleges and universities from across the nation were named to the 2018-19 list, and Belhaven was one of only two Mississippi institutions honored as a top Christian university. Belhaven was included with prestigious institutions such as Belmont University, Charleston Southern University, Pepperdine University, Samford University, and Wheaton College.

"Our faculty are some of the best in the country in the fields they teach, our students are eager to learn, and our campus has a thriving atmosphere that fosters strong community,” noted Kevin Russell, vice president for university enrollment and marketing. “We partner with our students to find success by helping them discover the field or vocation that best fits their God-given abilities."

According to COD, Belhaven was honored because it is nationally recognized by education professionals as an excellent school and has a strong focus on teaching undergraduates. It is also home to a wide variety of innovative learning experiences and has an active campus life with many opportunities for personal development. Belhaven is also highly valued by graduate schools and employers for its career preparation.

"To receive this high acclaim for eight years in a row is a significant accomplishment.” said Suzanne Sullivan, assistant vice president for enrollment and student services. “Our traditional students, as well as our adult, graduate, and online students, have opportunities to connect with professors who are not only knowledgeable about their field of study, but have worked in the field. Our online and campus environments are thriving with engaged students who are using their studies to make a difference in their families, communities, and careers.”

Institutions are nominated for participation by educators, and then evaluated using qualitative and quantitative research. COD takes an unbiased look at the admission process and look at the myths surrounding college admissions, provide tools for self-assessment and provide insights from college admissions professionals, high school counselors, students and parents.
