Dr. Ulrich GiesekusOctober 19, 2018 (Jackson, Miss.) - As part of the speaker series “Mental Health and the Bible,”Belhaven's Institute for International Care and Counselwill host author and professor Dr. Ulrich Giesekus. He is a professor of counseling psychology at the Liebenzell International University of Applied Science in Germany. His community-wide lecture, “The Way It's Supposed to Be: Flourishing, Mental Health and Shalom," is October 23 and will be held at 7 p.m. in Irby Room 200.

Because of a generous grant by the Presbyterian Church USA, Belhaven is able to bring this lecture series to campus, and University leaders plan on having one lecture each semester in 2018 and 2019.

Dr. Giesekus is a doctoral graduate of Alliant International University in San Diego and the University of Delaware, where he earned his M.Ed. and B.A. He has been involved in research and teaching on Christian counseling for many years and authored numerous books. He is the academic director of the course “Integrative Counseling” at Liebenzell University.

He was director of the first “International Conference on Global Mental Health and the Role of the Church” in 2015 with speakers and participants from over 20 countries. He has led the “Global Issues” track at several AACC World Conferences and is now involved in the “Christian Care and Counsel” track of the Lausanne Movement, a global missions network.
