September 28, 2022 (Jackson, Miss.) - Belhaven will host its annual Majors Fair on Thursday, October 6, 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. This interactive and insightful event, located at The Commons, will give under-classmen the opportunity to explore other majors, minors, and electives before pre-registration in the Spring.
Professors and students from every academic department will be in attendance to speak with freshmen and other students who might be considering a different degree and career path.
Choosing a major is difficult for students, and we know that plans change, said Claire Langley, director of Belhaven's Center for Career and Calling. It's normal for freshmen to change their major once or twice, but many times it's because they haven't been able to get enough information about what their major actually leads to.
The Majors Fair is the only event that gives students detailed information about all of the University's major and minor offerings in one place and at one time. This event is also helpful for students considering Belhaven's Double Major Promise, a program that gives free tuition in the fifth year for students pursuing a double major.
Langley adds, Participants can speak directly with students who are successful in their major and professors who teach the material. Statistics show that the majority of those who attended past major fairs learn something new, change or choose a major, or add an additional minor or major.
