Jordan CrosbyOctober 21, 2022 (Jackson, Miss.) - The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) chose nursing major Jordan Crosby for a highly competitive scholarship.

The Nurse Corps Scholarship provides awards and loan repayment to nursing students in exchange for a two-year service commitment at a health care facility with a critical shortage of nurses. Crosby will receive funding for tuition, fees, and other educational costs and a monthly stipend of $5,328.

Belhaven School of Nursing Chair Dr. Amy Rex Smith shared this story. “During her studies, her father died unexpectedly, and she had to make a decision whether or not to continue in the program or to withdraw and re-enter next year. It was a difficult decision and Jordan stayed in the program to honor her father's wishes to see her as a Registered Nurse. The tenacity she demonstrated and her perseverance despite the difficult loss is to be lauded. She is a person of strength and character.”

HRSA is an agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and their goal is to improve health care to people who are geographically isolated and economically or medically vulnerable. Through these programs, nurses are a major part of building healthier communities in areas of greatest need across the country.
