Theatre Department to Present Annual Festival of Shorts

JACKSON, Miss. (October 31, 2025) — Belhaven University’s Theatre Department will showcase the creativity and talent of its student directors during the annual Festival of Shorts, a collection of 10-minute plays presented November 19–20 at 7 p.m. in the Barber Theatre.

Each fall, students enrolled in the directing class bring their artistic vision to life by selecting, casting, and staging a series of short plays. The performances feature a diverse mix of genres, from lighthearted comedies to thought-provoking dramas, offering audiences an engaging evening of storytelling.

“This festival is a celebration of our students’ growth as emerging directors,” said Dr. Elissa Sartwell, Belhaven’s Chair and Professor of Theatre. “They take ownership of every aspect of production — from interpreting the script to guiding their casts — and the result is always a dynamic and entertaining night of theatre.”

Showtimes:

  • Wednesday, November 19 at 7 p.m.
  • Thursday, November 20 at 7 p.m.

Admission to the Festival of Shorts is complimentary, and seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Doors open 30 minutes prior to each performance, and individuals must be physically present to claim a seat.
