Belhaven University Welcomes Dr. Jan Lemon to Counseling Faculty

JACKSON, Miss. (February 25, 2026) - Belhaven University has appointed Dr. Jan C. Lemon as associate professor in the Master of Arts in Counseling program.

Dr. Lemon brings more than 20 years of experience in mental health and educational counseling to her role. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes the integration of theory and practice, strong ethical foundations, and cultural competence in preparing future counseling professionals. Known for her empathic approach and commitment to student growth, she is widely respected as a leader in the counseling field.

“Dr. Lemon’s depth of professional experience, commitment to ethical practice, and dedication to mentoring students make her an outstanding addition to our faculty,” said Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Audrey Kelleher. “Her leadership in the counseling profession and her passion for integrating faith and learning reflect the mission and values that define Belhaven.”

Dr. Lemon earned a Bachelor of Arts in business administration from Belhaven College, a Master of Education in counseling education from Mississippi College, and a Doctor of Philosophy in counseling education from Mississippi State University.

A Licensed Professional Counselor and Board Qualified Supervisor in Mississippi, Dr. Lemon is also a National Certified Counselor and National Certified School Counselor, with additional credentials in telemental health and trauma counseling. She has presented more than 50 sessions at state, national, and international conferences and currently serves on the Ethics Committee of the Mississippi Counseling Association.

She previously served as president of the association and has been a longtime member of its board of directors. Her professional honors include the MCA Janie G. Rugg Career Contributor Award and the American Counseling Leadership Award.

In addition to her teaching and professional service, Dr. Lemon has published numerous articles on adolescent wellness, family processes in counseling, addiction counseling, and the integration of spirituality in counseling. She is also the author of a Christian fiction novel recognized for its intricate plots and vivid characters.
