Belhaven University Appoints Camille Buxton as Assistant Professor of Education and Online Elementary Education Program Coordinator

JACKSON, Miss. (August 6, 2026) — Belhaven University has appointed Camille Buxton as assistant professor of education and coordinator of the Online Elementary Teacher Education Preparation Program in the School of Education. In her new role, she will help prepare the next generation of elementary educators through innovative online instruction, curriculum development, and clinical training grounded in a Christian worldview.

Buxton joins Belhaven with 16 years of experience in Mississippi K–12 education and a passion for equipping future teachers to make a lasting impact in their classrooms and communities. She will oversee online instruction, program development, curriculum design, and clinical experiences for the Online Elementary Teacher Education Preparation Program while working alongside the undergraduate chair to provide leadership for the Online Teacher Candidate Clinical Internship Program. Her work will support teacher candidate experiences aligned with Teacher Education Preparation Program (TEPP), Mississippi Department of Education (MDE), Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP), and national reading standards.

Before joining Belhaven, Buxton served as an English teacher and Lighthouse Coordinator for the nationally recognized Leader in Me framework, where she led faculty teams in building a culture of leadership and student success. She cultivated partnerships with district superintendents, school administrators, and mentor teachers to provide meaningful clinical experiences and internships for teacher candidates.Earlier in her career, Buxton taught kindergarten, where she developed expertise in phonemic awareness, early literacy instruction, and social-emotional learning. She also served as a junior advisor for dual-enrollment students and mentored teacher candidates from Mississippi State University. Her excellence in the classroom earned her Teacher of the Year honors at both Bowmar Elementary School and River City Early College.

Outside of her professional responsibilities, Buxton enjoys spending time with her husband, their three children, and granddaughter. She also enjoys watching game shows, attending sporting events, and mentoring the next generation of educators.
