Belhaven University Appoints Wendy Durrell as Assistant Professor of Nursing

JACKSON, Miss. (August 10, 2026) — Belhaven University has appointed Wendy Durrell, M.S.N., R.N., as assistant professor of nursing in the School of Nursing. Bringing a strong foundation in both clinical practice and nursing education, Durrell will help prepare future nurses through evidence-based instruction, hands-on learning, and Christ-centered mentorship.

In her new role, Durrell will teach courses in Nursing Foundations and Medical-Surgical Nursing, areas that align closely with her extensive clinical experience and passion for developing competent, compassionate healthcare professionals.

Before joining Belhaven, Durrell served on the nursing faculty at Hinds Community College from August 2023 through May 2026. During her tenure, she earned recognition for her engaging instructional methods and innovative approach to teaching, receiving a nomination for the Mississippi Organization for Associate Degree Nursing (MOADN) Innovative Teaching Award in 2025.

Durrell earned a Master of Science in Nursing with a Family Nurse Practitioner concentration from South College, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Mississippi University for Women, and an Associate in Applied Science in Nursing from Hinds Community College. She also holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Mississippi State University and maintains professional licensure as a Registered Nurse.

Passionate about mentoring future nurses, Durrell is committed to creating a supportive learning environment where students develop strong clinical judgment, confidence, and the skills needed to deliver compassionate, evidence-based patient care. Her teaching emphasizes professional excellence, servant leadership, ethical practice, and whole-person care grounded in Christian values.

Outside of the classroom, Durrell is actively involved in her church, where she volunteers with the Kids Life and Momentum student ministries. She enjoys running, gardening, sewing, and playing the piano.
