Belhaven University Earns 2026–2027 Colleges of Distinction Honors for Academic Excellence
JACKSON, Miss. (September 2, 2026) – Colleges of Distinction, a national resource for college-bound students, has honored Belhaven University with three major distinctions recognizing its academic excellence, Christ-centered education, and commitment to student success.
Belhaven is one of only three universities in Mississippi named a 2026–2027 College of Distinction, marking the 17th consecutive year the University has earned this prestigious designation. Belhaven was also recognized as a Christian College of Distinction for the 16th year and honored as a Mississippi College of Distinction, highlighting its continued educational impact across the state.
“For 17 years, Colleges of Distinction has affirmed what we know to be true about Belhaven—our commitment to Christ-centered academics, a supportive community, and preparing students for meaningful lives and careers,” said Suzanne Sullivan, vice president for enrollment and marketing. “We are honored to receive this recognition once again and proud of the transformational educational experience our students find at Belhaven.”
Colleges of Distinction evaluates institutions according to four pillars of student success: engaged students, great teaching, vibrant communities, and successful outcomes. The organization’s review considers each university’s first-year experience, general education program, strategic initiatives, alumni success, and student satisfaction.
Belhaven’s recognition reflects the University’s comprehensive approach to higher education, combining rigorous academics with opportunities for personal, professional, and spiritual growth. Students participate in character-building seminars, service-learning experiences, global and intercultural learning, and interdisciplinary programs.
Belhaven students also benefit from collaborative projects, undergraduate research, living-learning communities, capstone experiences, study-abroad opportunities, and internships that prepare them to serve with purpose and succeed in their chosen careers.
