The Belhaven Singing Christmas Tree Returns December 4–5 for Its 94th Year
JACKSON, Miss. (October 15, 2026) – Belhaven University will welcome the Christmas season with the 94th annual Singing Christmas Tree on December 4–5 at 7:30 p.m. in the Belhaven Bowl Stadium. Admission is free, and no tickets are needed.
The tradition began in 1933, when music professor Mignonne Caldwell arranged her choir in the shape of a Christmas tree. Today, singers stand in a 35-foot illuminated structure as programmed LED lights change color in time with the music. Students, alumni, and community members join together to perform seasonal favorites and carols celebrating the birth of Christ.
“Each year, singers from across the Belhaven family come together to be part of something bigger than themselves,” said Dr. Rebecca Geihsler-Chittom, chair of the Belhaven Music Department. “There’s something special about making music together, and I think that sense of community is what makes the Singing Christmas Tree so meaningful, both for those who participate and for the families who come back year after year.”
A cherished moment comes near the end of the program, when a soloist beneath the star at the top of the tree sings “O Holy Night.” The performance also weaves Scripture and sacred carols into its celebration of the Nativity.
“We hope people will bring their families, invite their friends and neighbors, and join us for an evening of music and lights,” Geihsler-Chittom said. “It’s a wonderful opportunity to come together as a community and celebrate the Christmas story through music.”
Guests are encouraged to dress warmly, bring a blanket, and join Belhaven University for an evening of Christmas music, lights, and community.
