World’s Longest-Running Musical To Premiere at Belhaven

FantasticksSeptember 16, 2019 (Jackson, Miss.) - The world’s longest-running musical The Fantasticks is coming to Belhaven University’s Blackbox Theatre. The musical premiered in 1960 on Broadway where it ran for 42 years with over 17,162 performances. Because of its nostalgia and universal appeal, it continues to be performed throughout the world.

The Fantasticks is a charming story of a pair of parents who want their rebellious children to fall in love, and so pretend to feud, enlisting the help of a romantic narrator and two bumbling actors. The musical, performed by students from the Belhaven Theatre Department, will feature the music of Harvey Schmidt, with book and lyrics by Tom Jones. Freelance director, actor, teacher, and coach Marianne Savell is guest directing this wonderfully entertaining musical.
