Student and Alumni Spotlights for the Intercultural Studies Program

Julien Marion, International Studies Major

Name: Julien Marion, alumnus
Major: International Studies
Hometown: Braine L'Alleud, Belgium
Fact: I listen to classical music to keep me awake on long road trips.

I chose to come to Belhaven University because... of the men's Basketball Coach, Tom Kelsey. I was recruited from California where I played my senior year of High School.

One relationship that has meant a lot to me while attending Belhaven University is... with my fiancé, Mallorie Lewis. I have had so many relationships that have meant a lot to me and that made me a better person: from my coaches to my teammates, from my friends to my advisor, Dr. Sarah Kimmel. But if I had to pick, it would be Mallorie Lewis, who danced at Belhaven and is now my future wife.

Because of my degree from Belhaven University... I have a couple of good leads working overseas post graduation. International Studies is a broad major, which gives you a lot of different options upon graduation. International Studies majors are required to take Bible classes, Political Science classes, and Business classes. Taking those classes allows you to find out what direction God wants you to go, and focus on those things by taking advanced electives in those areas: In Business, electives for International Business-or Bible classes for humanitarian activities/mission trips, etc. I truly believe that International Studies is a great major in the sense that it allows you to see the big picture-about what is happening outside of the US on a global scale, and how God wants to use you in the world.

One word to describe your experience at Belhaven: Life-Changing
