Frequently Asked Questions

Fill out either the Request a Book/Book Chapter form or the Request an Article form. Before submitting a request, check the Belhaven Library catalog or Full Text Finder to make sure the material is not already available to you.
Allow 2-4 weeks - sometimes less, sometimes more. Pickup notices are emailed to you.
ILL items may be picked up and returned at the Library Circulation Desk.
Lending libraries set the loan periods for ILL items -- generally one month. Due dues are written on the book band. Photocopies or electronic documents are yours to keep.
Yes, each overdue ILL item incurs a $1.00/day charge, with no maximum fine.
All Belhaven University students, faculty, and staff may use ILL. However, persons with restrictions due to fines, overdue books, and other circumstances may be blocked from ILL services until all library accounts are cleared.
Books, book chapters, and periodical articles are the most common ILL requests. Please realize rare books, audiovisual materials, entire volumes or issues of periodicals, reference books, genealogical titles, and dissertations/theses are not usually available for loan. No text book requests will be filled.
The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code), governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction.
One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be "used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research." If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of "fair use," that user may be liable for copyright infringement.
This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order, if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.
ILL is free in most cases. You can indicate an amount you are willing to pay on the request form. You will be notified of any charges above the indicated amount before your ILL request is processed.
No, but the Warren A. Hood Library reserves the right the limit the number of requests filled for each person.
