Belhaven University Launches High-Demand Data Science Degree
February 5, 2024 (Jackson, Miss.) - Belhaven University is excited to launch the Master of Science in Data Science(MSDS) degree program, with classes set to begin April 29, 2024. This online degree will prepare students for a next-generation career in data science and analytics.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that data science jobs will be one of the most popular fields over the next decade. “Earning an MSDS degree opens doors to diverse career opportunities in today's data-driven world, enhancing prospects in fields such as finance, healthcare, and technology,” said School of Business Dean Dr. Brett Andrews. “This program is perfectly timed to integrate with new business developments in the state.”
Amazon Web Services recently announced a $10 billion project coming to Central Mississippi, expected to create hundreds of data science-related jobs. Belhaven University officials say they are ready to train and prepare students to fill those jobs.
Tuition for the entire 30-credit hour MSDS program is only $9,975, making it one of the most affordable data science programs in the nation. The online classes are self-paced, meaning students can finish courses on their own timeline and in seven-week offerings.
Andrews observed, “The University has pulled together faculty who are committed to making students experts in analytics and modeling, helping them understand complex data, extract insights, improve processes, create predictive models, and problem-solve by analyzing data.”
Jobs in this field are in high demand and include everything from data scientist, senior data analyst, business intelligence analyst, and data engineer to data product manager, quantitative analyst, and market research analyst.
According to Andrews, this program is designed for people from various backgrounds and there are no advanced tech skills required. Andrews adds, “Whether your training is in business, mathematics, computer science, social sciences, or engineering, data science merges skills from various fields making it an ideal choice for diverse interests.”
