September 25, 2020 (Jackson, Miss.) - Belhaven will host its annualMajors Fairon Thursday, October 8, 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. in front of the Student Center. This interactive and insightful event gives under-classmen the opportunity to explore other majors, minors, and electives before preregistration in the Spring.
Professors and students from every academic department will be in attendance to speak with freshmen and other students who might be considering a different degree and career path.
Choosing a major is difficult for the majority of students, said Claire Langley, director ofBelhaven's Center for Career and Calling. Even if they choose coming in as a freshman, many times they change it once or twice. That's normal, but many times it's because they haven't been able to get enough information about what the major actually entails. The Majors Fair, which also focuses on the advantage of choosing a minor to increase career opportunities after graduation, is the only place that allows students to get detailed information onall of our major and minor offerings in one place!
This event is also helpful for students considering Belhaven's Double Major Promise, a scholarship that gives free tuition in the fifth year for students pursuing a double major.
Langley adds, Participants can speak directly with students who are successful in their major and professors who actually teach the material. Statistics show that the majority of those who attended past major fairs learn something new, change or choose a major, or add an additional minor or major.
