The Belhaven University Guitar ensemble is a collective of guitar chamber groups ranging from duets to a full guitar quartet and an experimental jazz ensemble.
We provide opportunity for students of every range of skill level to experience the joy of making music together with others, discover exciting new music and be challenged to develop the musicianship skills needed to form an integrated musical expression. Out of many diverse voices comes the sound of unified beauty.
Our model for music making is the creative work of the triune God who takes the shapeless and the formless and poetically unifies it in the act of creation.
Players from diverse musical backgrounds and experience learn to work and make music together. We teach the basics of sight reading and counting rhythms for entry level students. Players are assigned literature according to their level of technical development and sight reading experience.
Whether you are interested in traditional classical music, contemporary, cutting edge modern or jazz improvisation, we seek to build an atmosphere of exploring possibilities and challenging the individual musician to push their skill to the next level and beyond.
